A family story that started in Plain City. A team that Polaris drivers trust by name. This is how ER Autocare came to your neighborhood.
The Raber Family Story
Ray Raber grew up with grease on his hands and pride in his work. When he moved his family to Columbus from Apple Creek, Ohio in 2007 — rooted in a Mennonite community where craftsmanship is not a slogan, it is a way of life — he did what he always did: he started fixing things.
Working out of a small farm shop in Plain City, Ray repaired cars, tractors, semis, and lawn mowers for his neighbors. No advertising. Just word of mouth, and work you could stand behind.
By September 2008, the shop was too busy to run alone. His son Eric — fresh off stints at a local Ford dealership, a trucking company, and a concrete crew — joined him. That is the moment ER Autocare was born.
Ray relocates from Apple Creek, OH and begins part-time repairs from a farm shop in Plain City — cars, tractors, semis, lawn mowers. All by word of mouth.
Ray's son Eric brings dealership, trucking, and field experience to the shop. The name ER — Eric and Ray — becomes official. Customers keep coming.
The original shop can't hold them anymore. They move one mile down the road. By the end of 2013, business has doubled.
Eric purchases the business from Ray and begins planning for growth. Ray stays on doing what he loves — fixing cars. Some things don't change.
After careful market research, Eric chooses the Polaris corridor — one of Columbus's fastest-growing residential and commuter zones — for the second location. The Polaris community responds immediately.
With shops in Plain City, Polaris, Upper Arlington, and Sawmill Road, ER Autocare is Central Ohio's independent auto repair family. More growth planned.
Why We Chose Your Neighborhood
Drivers in Polaris, Worthington, Powell, and Lewis Center were used to one choice: the dealership. Long waits. Upsells. A service advisor you never see again.
Eric Raber saw something different here. The families along Polaris Parkway, the commuters cutting through Worthington, the neighborhoods off I-71 near Powell Road and Sancus Boulevard — they were exactly the kind of people who had built Plain City into a community that trusted ER from day one.
People who ask questions. People who value honesty. People who remember your name.
That is who ER Autocare Polaris was built for.
Our Standard
Ray Raber did not start ER Autocare with a marketing budget. He started it with a promise: do the work the way it deserves to be done.
The phrase "Masters of Our Craft" came from that same place. We put ourselves in the same company as French bakers who proof their dough for 18 hours, master carpenters who cut corners only when a corner needs cutting, and master brewers who understand that time is an ingredient.
In Mennonite tradition, craft is not a skill — it is a character trait. You make things right because you signed your name to them. That is what shows up at 228 Park Rd every morning.
The People You Actually Meet
The names that show up in your reviews are the same faces you will see at the front desk and in the shop. That is not a coincidence.

— Most-mentioned team member in Polaris customer reviews
Nate represents what ER Autocare is built on: showing up the same way every day, for every customer, regardless of whether it's a $40 oil change or a $1,400 repair. Polaris drivers keep coming back because they trust what Nate tells them.
Founder & Master Technician
Ray started it all — part-time, out of a farm shop, with a handshake. He still does what he has always loved: working on cars. You might catch him at Plain City. Occasionally you will find him at Polaris, saying hello to customers the way he always has.
Owner & Operator
Eric joined his father in 2008 and purchased the business in 2018. He leads the growth strategy and daily operations across all four locations. The Polaris shop was his vision — and Polaris responded.
Polaris, Worthington & Beyond
The families who drive down Polaris Parkway, the parents picking up kids near Worthington Kilbourne, the commuters coming off I-71 at Gemini Place — they are our neighbors. We take that seriously.
