Summer Maintenance | ER Autocare

Our record high temperature in Plain City, OH, is 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Thankfully, we don’t get that hot every summer, but our mercury still rises into the 80s. This is why now is a good time to have some preventative summer maintenance services done on your car, truck, or SUV. ER Auto Care will make sure your automobile runs efficiently all summer long, keeping you and it cool in the hot and humid weather.

Air-Conditioner Test and Service

You can’t keep cool without your vehicle’s AC, and your vehicle can’t keep cool if the added stress from running the AC overheats it. Have your air-conditioner tested and serviced now to make sure the compressor and fan are working, the system isn’t leaking, and that you have plenty of refrigerant to keep your vehicle’s cabin comfortable all summer long.

Cooling System Flush and Service

We mentioned above that the air-conditioner adds stress to your vehicle’s engine that can make it overheat. While you’re getting your AC serviced, have the radiator flushed and filled, too. The cooling system should also be checked for leaks, and the thermostat and fan need to be tested. This makes sure the engine can handle the AC and outdoor temperatures.

Oil and Oil Filter Change

Before the weather gets too hot (and all summer long), make sure to have your oil changed every 3,000 miles. Your radiator isn’t the only thing that keeps your car, truck, or SUV’s engine cool. Motor oil, whether conventional or synthetic, also cools the engine. As the oil circulates through the engine, it pulls heat from moving parts. Old motor oil cannot do this effectively.

Tire Rotation and Balance

Finally, your vehicle’s tires should be rotated every 4,000 miles. Depending on the tire, you might be able to go as long as 6,000 miles between rotations. Bald tires cannot grip hot summer roads and, in fact, the heat can damage the tires if they don’t have enough tread. Get your tires rotated and the wheels balanced. If it’s been two-to-three years since a wheel alignment, have that done, too.
