Suspension, Shocks & Struts Repair in Columbus, OH
A bouncy ride, clunks over bumps or a car that dips when braking usually means suspension wear. We inspect and repair suspensions at all four ER Autocare shops.

Signs of suspension wear
- Bouncing after bumpsWorn shocks or struts let the car keep bouncing instead of settling.
- Nose dive when brakingThe front end dipping hard under braking can mean worn front struts.
- Clunks or knocksWorn sway bar links, ball joints or bushings often knock over bumps.
- Drifting in turnsThe body leaning or the car feeling loose in corners points to worn components.
- Uneven tire wearCupping or scalloped wear on the tread is a classic sign of worn shocks.
- Fluid on a shock or strutAn oily shock body usually means the shock has started to leak and lose damping.
What your suspension does
The suspension keeps your tires pressed to the road and the ride under control. Springs carry the weight of the car, while shocks and struts control how quickly the springs compress and rebound. Control arms, ball joints, bushings and sway bar links hold the wheels in position.
When these parts wear, the car does not just ride rougher. Stopping distances get longer, the car is harder to control in an emergency maneuver, and tires wear out faster.

Ohio roads are hard on suspensions
Freeze-thaw cycles open up potholes every spring, and a hard hit can bend components or knock the alignment out. Road salt also corrodes springs, links and mounting hardware over time.
After a big pothole impact, or when the car starts to drift or pull, an inspection and an alignment check catch damage before it wears out your tires.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my shocks or struts are worn?
Common signs are bouncing after bumps, the nose diving when braking, leaning in turns, cupped tire wear and oil on the shock body.
Do I need an alignment after suspension work?
Often yes. Replacing struts, control arms or tie rods changes the wheel angles, so an alignment is usually recommended afterward.
Are worn shocks a safety issue?
Yes. Worn shocks and struts can increase stopping distance and reduce control, especially on rough or wet roads.
Do you work on trucks and SUVs?
Yes. We service suspensions on cars, SUVs and trucks of all makes.
